Precision Milling is exemplified through the use of our 3, 4, or 5 axes machines, performing vertical and horizontal milling ranging from general milling to extremely sensitive operations to 30 µin (0.8 µm) accuracy. The high spindle speeds permitted by our sophisticated machines and tooling provide surface finishes to 6 µin (0.15 µm).
Our 5 axis machines give us the ability to machine complex geometries in a single setup improving efficiency, saves time, and prevents operator error. The part can be indexed to any position allowing shorter tools to be used. Using shorter tooling produces less pressure and vibrations ultimately achieving better surface finishers. Since five sides of a part can be machined with one home position, the feature to feature accuracy is improved. All of these features and benefits allow us to be more efficient, supplying repeatable and consistent results, and enhancing throughput/efficiency. These machines also enable us to hold extremely tight tolerances without sacrificing quality. Astley Precision currently uses twelve, 5 axis machines in production.
